First block we had a huge arguement. Spiderman or Batman? Batman is definetly the better of the two. Yeah spiderman has powers but batman doesn't need powers to kick butt. He is super stealth and his villains are alot better two. Also we had a dispute about Storm or Jean Grey/Phoenix. Of course Storm wins, she was played by Halle Berry who is alot hotter than that woman who plays Jean Grey/Phoenix

We were so bored in first block that we got a trash bag trapped a bunch of air in it and tied it at the end so it had a tail. Then we decided it looked like a jellyfish and started throwing it in the air and blowing at it to make it move like jellyfish. Then when the projector beamed on it, it had colors like a jellfish so we started to hit it in the air to see the colors even more until we just started hitting it at eachother. We turned a simple trashbag into jellyfish volleyball it was great. All of this in ROTC.

To inbound tourists, Myrtle Beach has a message: The wildfires should not affect your vacation plans.
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce issued an advisory Thursday that the flames do not impact coastal tourism, only travel to, and in a portion of, North Myrtle Beach.
Chamber officials want visitors to know the Myrtle Beach International Airport, golf courses and most hotels are not affected.
"We do not expect this to affect tourism in the long or short term," said chamber chief executive Brad Dean in a written statement.
Dean's executive assistant, Kate Miles, said one chamber member who owns rental properties said 90 percent of his calls Thursday came from en-route visitors concerned about their plans. Most, Miles said, kept their reservations.
"We're just trying to get the message out that it's a very isolated area" impacted by fires, she said. "As far as travel and tourists coming, everything is open."
According to the article most of the major attractions like the golf courses will not be affected by the fires so it should not affect toursim to harshly.
The fires affect mostly North Myrtle Beach whereas most of the major hotspots are in Coastal Myrtle Beach which means that tourists will still be able to padrticipate in their favorite activities there. As far as this article states, fires will not have much of an impact on Myrtle Beach tourism

This is what is happening to Americans and might be the reason for the current drinking age. I totally disagree with the law. if you're are old enough to be declared an adult and can be out on your own, you should have the choice of whether or not to drink at 18. However this picture is pretty funny!

Importance of Distribution Channels
As noted, distribution channels often require the assistance of others in order for the marketer to reach its target market. But why exactly does a company need others to help with the distribution of their product? Wouldn’t a company that handles its own distribution functions be in a better position to exercise control over product sales and potentially earn higher profits? Also, doesn’t the Internet make it much easier to distribute products thus lessening the need for others to be involved in selling a company’s product?
While on the surface it may seem to make sense for a company to operate its own distribution channel (i.e., handling all aspects of distribution) there are many factors preventing companies from doing so. While companies can do without the assistance of certain channel members, for many marketers some level of channel partnership is needed. For example, marketers who are successful without utilizing resellers to sell their product (e.g., Dell Computers sells mostly through the Internet and not in retail stores) may still need assistance with certain parts of the distribution process (e.g., Dell uses parcel post shippers such as FedEx and UPS). In Dell’s case creating their own transportation system makes little sense given how large such a system would need to be in order to service Dell’s customer base. Thus, by using shipping companies Dell is taking advantage of the benefits these services offer to Dell and to Dell’s customers.
This source talks about the different channels of distribution and gives an example of how Dell sells computers using the Internet as one of their channels. They go from the manufacturer, to FedEx to your home. That is one channel of distribution for Dell computers

The new theme would maybe help business but it also has potential to hurt the business. with the Hard Rock Theme park it already had a solid target market, but with changing the theme comes changing the target. Now the customers it had before may not choose to return or they may choose to return, right now it's up in the air. I would add some roller coasters. I know when i go to theme parks or amusement parks i like to have a nice choice among coasters. Now that it isn't associated with Hard Rock it might be a little harder to get tourists to come to the park. However since Myrtle Beach is an attraction it's only a matter of time before the new theme park is mentioned while tourists are at the beach.

These discounts will have a good chance of working out. People will buy if they feel they are getting a good deal. Yes people will find the least costly way to get a vacation, as to swim in their own pools as opposed to going to the beach, just to save the money. Offering these discounts will get people to spend more money, that won't end the recession but it certainly wont help the recession

The did do a good job of marketing research, they were able to target the middle class family and still have the bar theme for late nights. This business can be successful because it does target the middle class citizens which is the majority and it gives them family fun time. Then after the sun goes down the party-goers can have a nice drink at bar. They can keep up morale among the employees, if no one goes around thinking doom and gloom for the company they already have an upperhand due to the amount of businesses that believe their company will not survive the recession. Also if they don't make too many large changes then not alot of money will be lost. Despite the recession what does everyone want? Food! And we have the best pizza this side of the Atlantic! And with our prices competititors don't have a snowballs chance!

To me the new dora is not an issue, however it upsets parents because it is teaching small girls to be materialistic. Dora also was a show that was educational for both small boys and girls, but with the new shopping theme it will no longer interest young boys and will not be educational. No, young boys watched dora when they were younger, now that the boys are getting older a new shoppaholic dora will not peak their interest. Well, not really. They stated that the old dora will still bea aired and as the kids get older they will have already learned what dora has to teach so they will want to wdatch shows more targeted towards their age group. Well teens aren't really going to buy any dora goods, but parents might stop buying the products for their kids so there is potential for loss.

Tue, February 10, 2009 — IDG News Service — An appeals court judge agreed with an earlier Federal Communications Commission ruling that found Verizon used illegal tactics in trying to retain phone customers who decide to switch to another service provider.
Bright House Networks, Comcast and Time Warner filed the initial complaint against Verizon, arguing that the operator runs afoul of the Telecommunications Act when it contacts customers to offer them incentives to stay rather than switch operators.
At issue is how Verizon knows the customers are going to switch. When a customer decides to cancel service and go with another provider, the two providers work together to port the user's phone number to the new operator. The Telecommunications Act specifies that any information operators share with each other in order to provide telecommunications services must be kept private and not used for marketing purposes.
While Verizon already had contact details for its customers, the information exchange tipped the carrier off that the customers had decided to switch to another service provider. Verizon argued that it was receiving that information so the other operator, not Verizon, could offer telecommunications services. Thus, the information wasn't subject to the rule set in the Telecommunications Act and could be used for marketing purposes, Verizon argued.
But the judge agreed with the earlier FCC ruling that the Act meant to protect all exchanged information between carriers in this kind of situation.
Verizon said it is reviewing the order. "This looks like a loss for consumers, who now will have less information available when choosing between different competitors," David Fish, a Verizon spokesman, said in a statement.
HAHA! Verizon kind of sucks. I had to wait in verizon for two hours to get a phone, when they told me it would take about 20 minutes. But, what they are doing was deemed illegal but they will probably continue doing it anyway and nobody will care.

This is a little too extreme. I mean yeah everyone wants to save money but there are times where you want to reward yourself with a new tv or something that youve really wanted for some time so their spending habits are outrageous. No we don't save money this crazily. Some people might have to save up to 50% but not everyone will need to go to such lengths. As i said before there are times where you feel you need to reward yourself but to do it too often would be a waste of money

No, the time between june and labor day is the best time to attract younger people. with summer break and the sunshine it makes the younger want to hang out at the beach. I think that if they gear away from the younger people and gear more towards family it will eventually fail. Teenagers dont really want to hang with their family that often especially during their summer break. Some of their promotions are good i think i would just have alot of concerts and have themed party nights or something. Free? probably not if something is free it doesnt really attract the attention of tourists since most tourists bring money to spend they go for the places that charge thinking that they will be the best places to go. but hey everyone likes to save money.

i agree with the age statement most kids when they finally turn 18 they aren't really interested in work. Most are ready for nonstop partying and fun...for those who didnt start in high school like some of us... that lasts for the next few years so the maturity just is not there yet. once you hit the thirtys you begin to settle down and are alot more serious about things. the perfect time to start a business.

Virgin Records employed Janet Jackson. That's all i know. If you can start a business from scratch and make it a billion dollar corporation then that is a great thing to do. It will definetly take some time to do but if one has the patience go for it. He expanded his target market to reach almost anyone. Some people are born with the drive it takes to be an entrpreneur and can become one without much training, however others need lots of schooling and education to get started.

I think I would sell shoes. Even in the recession that is currently plaguing the US people still are going out and buying shoes. The target market of choice would be women 35-50. Statistically the recession has not affected their shopping habits at all. To keep our female clients we'd have a numerous amount of sales throughout the year. Our slogan: We Will Not Participate in this Recession!

Women do snack alot more than men so making snacke products more appealing to women will help their sales for women but might hurt sales for men. I for one don't eat the baked snacks but yes men don't search for attractive packaging they go with what they like ususally. Frito-Lay could be making a mistake retargeting towards women. What can they do for men?...leave well enough alone!

There really isn't much that can be done. If a person is not qualified to have the given job, an employer should not have to lower its standards to allow somebody work. Maybe those who aren't qualified should go to school and get qualified. With that said alot of people can't afford to go to school so they would probably have to keeping searching for jobs elsewhere. It's a difficult situation

I think that if Scholastic wants to continue to be successful then they should continue to sell non-book items. Kids need breaks every now and then and when they do take a break and the put M&M Kart racing in their Wii, they will remember that they got it from the Scholastic company. Yes i think it is perfectly ethical. If I were a parent this would not bother me because Scholastic is just trying to be successful. If it helped to improve business then yes I would without hesitation change my product list

So what if Michael Phelps smoked marijuana? No one was hurt and he's still an amazing competitor, yes I would continue to give money to Phelps as a sponsor. Once again I wdould still pay Phelps to market my products. The fact that he was smoking marijuana just proves that he's just like everybody else he made a mistake, and if he continues to smoke marijuana well, that's his personal life.

The cereal box changing size does not mean that the whole current cereal box size will change. Some companies may decide to keep the current size of the cereal box or the new box size may not sit well with consumers so as of now it's too soon to say. As stated in the article the new size will make it fit better in cupboards and shelves better than the current size. However if it is reconstructed to fit cupboards the volume may decrease having less cereal per box which would be a major drawback for some if not all.

Free food and tours sounds good but that alone may not be enough to get people to book stays again. No, if people are in driving distance of the hotel, they would have to drive and spend that much more money on gas. Yes, i guess it makes me want to know how the people who live there feel when they experience the coast. Hilton Head where your stay will be on the coast of perfection...?

I think that making money online is alot easier but more risk would be involved. I thought about online marketing as a good way to work in a comfortable environment and still make money. Even though there's always the risk of being scammed, depending on how much you have to invest i'd give it a shot.

If a company chooses to spend outrageous amounts of money on a campaign its their prerogative. I for one wouldn't but its their choice. I would not spend this amount of money to advertise during the superbowl mainly because its too much money to invest in something thats not a sure thing. I'm not sure how the superbowl affects company sales. More people watch the commercials but not to neccessarily buy the products. I would focus my advertisements around Christmas mainly because the majority of people in the US celebrate Christmas. I don't think i understand the last question.

If it will help their business then Coke should do whatever it takes. I think it won't be successful, because everybody nowadays is so health conscience and are trying to eat healthier so alot of people will try to drink other drinks rather than sodas. Also some people have gone so long without sodas that they would rather just not go back to drinking them. New bottles wouldnt attract me to a drink but a lower price definitely would right now with the economy problems. Celebrities do help business alot and it would help here in the case of Coca-Cola since people already liked Coke.
Thursday, January 22, 2009
I personally would not change something that has been successful for so many years. The hardest thing that an advertiser has to do is appeal to the new younger generation, and since they have already successfully done so changing it would be pointless. Well I'm pretty sure it could still work but, it's probably better just to stick with the basics since its a sure thing. Just so long as the taste doesn't change, the people will still continue to buy it. Changing the packaging doesn't change the product. What seems to have done it was when Dr. Robert Cade died and the new head lady took over. She probably had wanted to change it for awhile and when he died it gave her the perfect opportunity to do it. She waited over a year so that it wouldn't seem like she was trying to change Gatorade so soon after the doctor died.
